Dan Shepherd


Dan founded BTON Financial in 2017, realising that he could help Asset Managers take advantage of the opportunities arising from MiFID II regulatory change. Prior to BTON Financial, Dan was Head of Sales and Marketing for the LSE’s TRADEcho MiFID II solution. During his career, Dan worked at leading prime brokerage firms in Europe and Asia, including Société Générale, Marex Spectron, ING Barings and MF Global, and has helped build and sell low latency trading FinTech infrastructure company Algospan.

Caroline Holmes


Caroline joined BTON Financial after more than two decades working as a regulatory and transformation expert predominantly across the investment and asset management community. Previously, she held Program Director roles for the Bank of Montreal and BMO GAM Asset Management, and MiFID II Program Director for Principal Global Investors. Prior to that, she was Head of Regulatory Change Delivery for Columbia Threadneedle Investments and Change Management Consultant at PwC.

Charles Phan


Charles has spent over 15 years in the hedge fund and asset management industry. A technology expert and experienced quant trader, Charles was Chief Technology Officer at Interdax, where he deployed an ultra-low latency matching engine supporting both institutional and retail clients. He was a quant trading strategies consultant for a Swiss hedge fund and has held senior technology tenures at hedge funds, with responsibility for full stack development of distributed automated trading systems.

Justin Hudson

Head of Sales

Justin joined BTON Financial after spending nearly a decade in senior technology sales at the London Stock Exchange. His expertise includes implementing technology solutions with buy- and sell-side clients; he was responsible for selling the LSE’s UnaVista platform. Prior to that, he worked for MBA IT, a London based IT services provider. He started his career at Parsons Brinckerhoff, a multinational engineering and design firm operating in the fields of strategic consulting, planning and engineering.

Emmett Cawley

Head of Data Science

A CERN physicist by training, Emmett has spent the majority of his career as quant and trader/developer. Most recently he was a quant trader with Millennium Capital Partners, Nomura International and Credit Suisse, in charge of trading strategies, market making and index arbitrage in futures, equities and ETFs. He started his trading career as a Director at UBS in charge of electronic execution and algo trading and as Deputy Head of Structured Products for NCB, in Bahrain.

Ray Tierney

Non-Executive Director

An electronic trading expert having held various senior leadership positions at major institutions. Including CEO of Bloomberg Tradebook and was also Global Head of Trading and Execution at Morgan Stanley Investment Management.

Tony Walker

Non-Executive Director

Tony Walker has more than 20 years experience in electronic trading. Currently a Non-Executive Director of Citadel Securities Europe, he started his investment banking career at Lehman Brothers where he joined the nascent electronic trading business. From 2006 he spent over a decade in various roles at Merrill Lynch, including Managing Director of EMEA Execution Services, where he helped establish the electronic trading franchise, both market access and algorithmic access for clients.

Paul Birch


A serial entrepreneur, Paul Birch is the co-founder of social network Bebo, which launched in 2005 and was later sold to AOL for $850m. Since then, Paul has been an angel investor in a range of B2B Fintech Businesses as well as a supporter of legalising and regulating the cannabis market. Currently, Paul is a Non-Executive Director at Sonovate and Onalytica.
